Designing The Future

Friday, 21 May 2010 12:21 by Team Elledge
Consider yourself part of the family

In case you didn't know, this past week has officially been "Design Week" here in Chicago.  Sponsored by the AIGA, the week has been a fantastic collaboration of creatives, including studio tours, juried exhibitions, lectures, etc.  Tonight, our good friends over at The Post Family are going to be hosting an event called We Are Family that will feature emerging Chicago talent.  We here at Team Elledge love good design, and many of our favorite projects have been collaborations with great designers in all fields.

On a personal note, Team Elledge member James will be performing with his band at the Post Family event!  If you get a chance to drop by, they will play short sets at 9 and 10:30.  In between, there will be plenty of work to check out, and plenty of great people to catch up with.  We hope you make it!

Beat That

Allen Ginsberg's  Self Portrait On My Seventieth Birthday

Last week Paul came across an article that everyone here at the studio agreed is well worth reading; it's an NPR story about Allen Ginsberg's photography of the Beat movement.

The National Gallery of Art recently opened an exhibition of Ginsberg's photographic works, and this is a really great opportunity to not only observe the work of a multi-talented artist, but to get an in-depth view into a historical movement.

Summer Is Coming

  Brian Hraster of Optimus

Recently we started working on a campaign with our good friends over at Scott & Victor.  We are working on a series of images for Optimus that are a lot of fun!  This image of Executive Producer Brian Hraster is currently running in Communication Arts.  If you work in a creative industry, and you somehow don't know about Communication Arts, you should definitely go check it out (but don't feel too bad; James didn't know what it was when he started out here as an intern...).

Whether or not you play bocce like Brian, the warmer weather is certainly enabling people to get outside and play more.  Personally, we here at Team Elledge are excited for some upcoming outdoors shoots, and yes - of course - warmer weather also facilitates riding motorcycles more often.  All in all, we're looking forward to another amazing summer in 2010!

Very Important!

Tonight (Saturday, 05/01) there is a gallery opening at the Stephen Daiter Gallery in Chicago that we here at Team Elledge consider to be quite important.  The show is called, "Passing the Torch: The Chicago Students of Callahan and Siskind" and features vintage photographs taken by students of Harry Callahan and Aaron Siskind during their teaching years at the Chicago Institute of Design.

If you are unfamiliar with Siskind and Callahan, we would just like to say that their images continue to directly affect modern photography, and they have a legacy of influence that is very far-reaching.  In fact, one of their students, Charles Swedlund, happens to have been one of Paul's teachers, and was a great influence on him during his school years.

We know that there is a lot going on this weekend with Art Chicago, but we strongly recommend that you take some time to drop by the opening reception party and check out this series of work.
