Toronto

Daniel Libeskind

Paul and the Team are currently in Toronto!  Although we are relatively close to our Northern Neighbors, it is still always a fun adventure to hop across the lakes and spend some time in Canada.  It seems like there is always something going on in the wonderfully diverse Toronto - the Toronto International Film Festival just wrapped up, and already people are getting ready for Scotiabank Nuit Blanche (an amazing all-night contemporary art festival).

Speaking of art, the Royal Ontario Museum in Toronto features an addition, The Crystal, that was designed by Daniel Libeskind.  Paul had the opportunity to photograph Mr. Libeskind a little while ago, and we are all big fans of his work.  The Crystal is a stunning modern space that offsets the original museum in a truly wonderful fashion.  If you ever make it to Toronto, we highly recommend that you check it out.

The Weekend

Taking a break

This weekend Paul will be taking part in TWALD - the annual ChiVinMoto event in which a bunch of Chicago area motorcyclists take their vintage bikes out for a bit of a tour.  This usually involves a lot of cruising, a fair amount of admiring restored bikes, and a little bit of bragging.  All in all, it's a good time, and if you happen to live in the Chicagoland vicinity and ride a vintage motorcycle, you should check out ChiVinMoto for some more upcoming events (like the "Slimey Crud Run" happening in October).

This weekend looks like it will be a beautiful one in the midwest, and all of us here at Team Elledge are planning on making the most of it.  If you don't exactly know what to do with yourself this weekend, you can always head on over to Facebook and stalk PaulLeashaBrian and James...  Or at the very least you can become friends with them.

Have a good one!

Will You Just Look At That

Cover of the catalogue from the ICP Avedon Show

First off, we would like to offer some H-U-G-E "THANK YOU"s to everyone who made it out to the Family Room last Friday to see Paul and Leasha's new work!!!  The turnout was amazing, and we were all very excited to show off Paul and Leasha's new prints.  Neither one of those projects had previously hung in a gallery, and they are quite stunning (if we do say so ourselves).

Speaking of prints, if you are anywhere near NYC (or have the ability to go there), we HIGHLY recommend that you go see Richard Avedon's fashion retrospective at the International Center of Photography.  No reproduction - in a book or on an HD display - will ever do those prints justice.  They will give you goosebumps.  They will inspire you.  And they might even make you cry (rumor has it that James teared up during his recent walk-through.  Paul and Brian were not available to comment).  If you can't make it to the show, you should at least find yourself a copy of the catalogue (cover image above).

Finally, we would like to direct you over to the fine new Strictly Business blog that has been launched by our friends at the American Society of Media Photographers.  The ASMP do a whole lot of good for the professional photographic community, and we encourage you to check out what they are doing.

We are VERY excited to announce that this upcoming Friday, September 11th, Paul and Leasha will be showing work along with Jo-Nell Sieren at the Family Room Gallery.  The show is called, "Family View," and will display the varying perspectives of each artist on family dynamics and the interactions that occur - both positive and negative - as a result of them.  Paul and Leasha will both be exhibiting bodies of work that have not been shown before, and we hope that you will be able to make it out to see them!

Here are the details for the opening:

Friday, September 11
7p.m. - Midnight
The Family Room Gallery
1821 W. Hubbard, Suite #202, Chicago, IL

We would like to thank The Post Family (and particularly this show's curator, David Sieren) for continuing to provide a unique showcase for local artists.

And speaking of Post Family members, Chad Kouri is acting as an artist-in-residence this week for the 7th annual Renegade Craft Fair in Chicago this upcoming weekend (September 12-13).  Leasha is a big fan of Renegade Handmade, and the festival looks like it will be a good time.  Check it out!

Laboring Away

Team Elledge on location - photo by Michael McGrath

We have been working like crazy recently, and like many people we are looking forward to the upcoming holiday.  Despite the fact that James and Leasha thought this was a "smile" picture, while Paul and Brian thought it was a "look tough" picture, we have all been having a great time staying busy.  Even so, we are going to ignore the blatant irony associated with everybody taking the day off of work for "Labor Day," and focus on relaxing this upcoming Monday.  Unless we get a job.  Just kidding.  Not really.

Anyway, we figured that you might find yourself with a spare moment or two this weekend, and no particular internet site to spend it on, so we thought we would direct you over to thecoolhunter.net.  If you can't find something interesting there, then we highly recommend THIS SITE.
