And Speaking of Creativity...

As photographers, we get to work in an explicitly "creative" industry.  For instance, in the picture up above, a lot of creativity (and creative problem-solving) went into making this final image.

While on location this week we have been discussing creativity and how it is a key component in progressing and enhancing our human experience.  Every aspect of our lives - from taking pictures to paying bills, cooking food, driving a car or installing plumbing - benefits from creativity.  And it seems as though the people who consistently manage to make the biggest positive impact on their surroundings are the ones that do not allow themselves to be limited in their creative pursuits.

If you aren't familiar with former Chicago resident R. Buckminster ("Bucky") Fuller, you probably should be.  Born in 1895, it wasn't until Fuller was 32 years old that he discovered the idea that would become the driving force of his creative endeavors.  He is commonly credited as being a, "visionary, designer, architect, author and inventor."  Quite an impressive list by any standards (although, interestingly enough, Fuller disliked being called by a title such as, "architect," because he considered such labels to be creatively limiting).

The MCA is currently hosting an exhibit (until July 5th) of Fuller's work, entitled, Buckminster Fuller: Starting with the Universe.  We highly recommend that you check it out.  Buckminster Fuller's life is a reminder to us that it doesn't matter how old you are - or what you choose to focus on - if you work to solve challenges creatively, you will (to some degree) make a positive impact on your surroundings.
